notd: china glaze fuschia fanatic

To keep up with this weather I decided it was time to paint my toenails which I have neglected for the past week. I did myself a mini pedicure and painted them this lovely colour. I also did my nails to match, which is a rarity, and in 2 days max will no longer be the case!
I know a lot of people in the UK haven't tried China Glaze polishes as they're quite hard to get hold of, but I'd really recommend them; they're a definite contender for OPI in my opinion, and a bit cheaper. I get all of mine from Sally's, I've got about 11 now, and every one is beautiful. They have a great range of colours and the application is generally a dream.

This is a blue-based hot pink, similar in colour to MAC's girl about town lipstick which I LOVE! it's darker and less neon-looking than in this picture because it was taken in sunlight, but still a gorgeous bright pink. perfect for summer and classic enough for all the other seasons too I think!

notd: models own indian ocean

I've spent today out in my garden enjoying the sunshine before it disappears again. I went all out, playsuit et al, and have managed to develop about 13,73,856,486,345 additional freckles on my arms and chest, as well as a "tan" line where the playsuit was tied, where my skin looks red and there's two lines which are insanely white. fab. I might fake tan later to try and hide this. I also feel a bit woozy from being out in the sun all day because I'm so not used to it.

glossybox may 2012: first anniversary edition

Sorry I've not posted for a while, but I was firstly busy in the week, then really ill on Friday which made me still feel crappy yesterday, and then this morning my laptop wouldn't work, so annoying!

I was SO excited for this box, and was thrilled when I got into work on Wednesday morning and saw that I'd got an email saying it had been dispatched, and even  more thrilled when I got a call from reception at about 11AM telling me it had arrived! I'm assuming they used different couriers as a lot of people on Twitter were confused about how quickly it arrived as well.
On first impressions, I love the tissue, it just adds another element that will make the packaging brilliant for putting presents in..
It was a lot more neat than this, I did rip it all open at work, I just can't help myself.
Anyway, onto the contents (which were taken in my garden, LOVING this sunshine, and the daisies)

I blew up the balloon and gave it to 1 year old Smokey, who has never seen a balloon before and seemed to have great fun with it...

For all of around 20 seconds...

Then once her work was done she was off.

The second anniversary extra was a cute little branded compact mirror, with one magnified side. I was thrilled with this because I always lose mirrors and have forgotten to buy one for ages, forcing me to carry a shard of broken mirror in my bag (seriously, it's not sharp but god forbid I forgot about it and tried to go clubbing). This is a nice size and snaps shut nicely.

Next up, two Lolita Lempicka perfume samples. I've never heard of her before, but I got Si Lolita which I don't like as it's too spicy, spicy smells remind me of aftershave, but that's my opinion. it is quite different, and i like the top note, just not when it fades down.
there's also her first fragrance, which I LOVE. It's fruity but with a vanilla (I think) undertone, it really reminds me of a perfume I bought on a school trip to France when I was about 13 which I can't remember the name of, but so much so it really transports me back to that.
I don't mind getting perfume samples when they're a decent size (like the Versace one in the Harrods box), but these tiny little samples infuriate me in beauty boxes, as everyone knows you can just go into Debenhams or wherever and ask for them! I am kinda glad I got these though as I'm probably going to buy the original one in full size, but I would have rathered been able to wear it for more than 2 days before deciding this.

The next product was a little bottle of Berber hair oil, which I've seen blogged about before, I do love a good hair oil so I'm looking forward to trying this out. It comes in a bottle like an essential oil, but it had leaked a bit I think as I could smell it as soon as I opened the box.

next up is a 75ml bottle of noble isle shower gel in summer rising. it says on the bottle that this smells like Cornish hedgerows, which my friend thought was hysterical. I like the smell of this but I washed my hands of it and the smell it left on my skin afterwards reminded me more of old man aftershave. You can use it as bubble bath as well, so I'll probably be trying that later.

I also got two Express Beauty revitalising face masks with pomegranate, one of which I've already used. The sachets are technically full price, but I hate sachets. I got two uses out of the one I used, but had to do them one day after the other as it would have dried up otherwise, which is annoying. This is a creme/gel based mask with little red dots in which pop on the skin, it didn't sink in as such but dried and went a little sticky after 15 minutes or so. I don't think it's done anything fantastic to my skin, but it did moisturise it, as when I tried to apply my serum and moisturiser afterwards my skin was a lot shinier and they took much longer to sink in as usual. I'm going to keep the other sachet for when my skin gets seriously dry/dehydrated like it did a few weeks ago, as I think this would really help that. and recieving skincare in boxes is my favourite, so this went down well overall.

last but not least, lashes! These are from Eldora and I believe they retail from £3.95 or similar (I left my product list at work). I saw some people got lashes with either glitter or diamantes on them, and I'm very glad I didn't as there's no way I'd find anywhere to wear those without looking a prat; most of the times I wear eyelashes at all I look overdone compared to everyone else! These are a bit spikier than I'd normally go for, but I'm looking forward to trying them out. They're handmade and come with a little thing of glue which to be fair will probably end up binned as I'm a DUO girl, but I can see how this is a definite plus for those who don't wear lashes often; there's nothing worse than getting eyelashes and having no bleedin glue!

So, that's that then. I was absolutely SO excited for the anniversary box as a lot of you were, but I can't help but feel a little... deflated (balloon pun, sorry). Considering how much glossybox banged on about their first birthday, this really didn't live up to the hype for me.
I've looked around at what other people got, and as usual the ambassadors got what I would consider a more worthwhile box, I still wouldn't say anything I've seen has excited me that much. When you compare this to the fact that the USA got their first box recently and it had 5 full size products in, I don't really see how this box is celebrating how popular they've been over here, and therefore not really impressed me.
I know  Glossybox have been doing a lot of big daily competitions on their facebook page, but as someone who doesn't use facebook this is useless to me, and I kinda wish they'd put more effort into the boxes, as it all just seems like they've been trying to get people more interested in this box, and then not actually delivered as far as the contents go.

When the highlight of a box is a compact mirror, I'm gonna be a bit miffed.

weekly wants #1

i've decided to start posting a weekly roundup of things that i've come across and have been lusting over on a weekly basis, and here's the first one! (put together on paint, ssshh, my laptop won't cope with any other program...)

i love biker jackets. i bought a rather expensive topshop one last summer and about a week after having it i left it outside a club (i think?) and never saw it again. so sad. but i'm now emotionally healed and fully ready for another. i really like that this is two tone, the arms look lovely. i'd also really like a heavily studded one...

i love all of the unusual jewellery that's around on the highstreet at the moment, it's all very much my thing. i don't wear earrings too often but i really like these, as far as i can see the stars poke out from behind your earlobes (i may be wrong?!). i just think these are very pretty. i'm a sucker for topshop jewellery.

i'm terrible with bags. i usually wear them to breaking point, and carry so much around in them the handles get weaker and weaker. i think the only bag that i still have that isn't broken in any way is an aldo bag i bought about 2 years ago. i'm in the market for a new bag as my current primark number is boring me now, so i have my eye on this

i KNOW that these have had rubbish reviews, and that they're just a gimmicky lipbalm, and a crap one at that, but i'm going to buy one just to look at. well done maybelline, you've got at least one sucker. does nobody else look at these and want to just crush them against something? because of the texture? no? just me then... moooving swiftly on...

i bought this month's copy of marie claire even though i don't read it just for the body shop lip stain that was free, and one of my favourite things about glossy mags are the perfume sniffing pages! this had a page with one of those little pull up sachet things with a bit of perfume soaked cotton in, and as i thoroughly wiped myself with that, i fell in love with this. it's a pretty generic scent, i can't put my finger on any perfume that it actually smells like but there's a lot of them. i don't care though, i LOVE it. and i love the bottle. yum.

i love watches, i started just wearing big chunky "gold" watches for jewellery, but then became so dependent on them that if i left the house without my watch i felt incomplete. this made me feel like my dad. not good. anyway, i've not worn a watch for a while (gonna be honest, it's mainly because all of the batteries have run out and i have no clue where to get a replacement for or what size i'd need), and this one is loovely, it reminds me of my first fashion watch i got from peacocks ages ago. i lost it. theme occuring here.

squeeeeeee. i love kurt geiger shoes, i could (and often do) stand outside at night time just looking at them through the glass. it's funny, if i did to men what i do to shoes i could be locked up (staring, not wearing). and vice versa, now i come to think of it. i'm sure there's a fetish for that... anyway, i have 4 pairs of KG shoes and although they're all absolutely ridiculous, platforms, pin width heels etc, they're SO comfy. and these are fairly sensible. and i do love a good nude shoe in the summer

so that's that. my first wishlist post! if anyone fancies buying me a present...?

leopard print nails tutorial

so, as you can probably see from my background, i love me some leopard print! i also love nail art. and i love this because it's so easy, and as i've demonstrated from the pic above (just spare stick ons painted, if you want to know what any of the colours are drop me a coment), it can work with virtually all colours. my favourite is browns because it looks more like a leopard!

Read on for the tutorial...

models own nail polish swatches

haul and mini reviews

so I went to Boots for some "essentials" on Monday, and ended up buying rather a lot...

Deep breath...

new red hair!

I had red hair just over a year ago, and the other day I was off work and bored, and suddenly got it into my head to walk down to boots and buy some more red dye!

I bleached it first to a light orangey colour, then used Shwarzkopf Live Colour XXL in Real Red, I needed just over 2 boxes of dye (I bought 3), to cover my actual hair and my extensions, which I didn't bleach first as they were already a bit lighter than my hair. I also bought a pot of Directions in pillarbox red, which I've mixed with all of the little tubes of conditioner you get in the permanent dye, so I can top up the colour every time I wash it! I'm glad I bought that colour because the XXL red is orange based, and the Directions is blue based, so layering them has given me a more true red.

It looks a lot brighter in that picture than it actually looks, this is what it looks like in real life...

divaderme lash extender: review

I'm obsessed with my eyelashes. I'm constantly on the lookout for a mascara that will give me the huge, thick, black lashes I'm after, which I'm sure is a journey you'll be joining me on with this blog.
I generally apply about 7 coats of mascara in the morning before work, which takes absolutely forever. I go through phases of wearing falsies but I absolutely suck at applying them on my left eye, so they either stick straight up or poke me in the eye slightly, which is fine for a few hours but after a day of staring at a computer screen my eyes are all red and horrible.
So when I saw Divaderme's Lash Extender (lashes in a bottle) on Wowcher for £15.99 (I think) instead of £42, I had to get it.

Read on for my review...

excuse the messy cuticles...
I know, I said I'd try to keep polish free and just use my nail envy. I failed. I happened to suddenly remember one of my all time favourite colours. this.

My experience with acrylic nails + nail envy original review

acrylic nails
Yes, those are were my nails. Not real, unsurprisingly.

I understand they may not be to everyone's taste, but I bloody loved them. Unfortunately, they now look like this....

Hello!

Hello...

My name's Hannah.
I'm interested in all things beauty, specifically skincare and makeup I guess, fashion, good food, and *shock horror* celebrity culture.

I've read other people's blogs for as long as I can remember, and yet never made one of my own. I've always wanted to, but haven't had the guts.
Well here I am! This blog will basically be me rattling on about product reviews, hauls etc. but who knows what'll happen...
